In November 2006, the First Nations Chiefs of BC supported by consensus a BC Assembly of First Nations Resolution to establish a First Nations forestry value-added industry in the province.
Development Co. and FPInnovations-Forintek Division were retained to
undertake a technical needs-assessment of existing and potential First
Nations wood products manufacturing operations. One of the outcomes of
this initiative was the creation of the BC First Nations Wood Products
Technical Support Program (WPTSP).
Since its launch three years ago, the program has established itself as a viable and valuable service to First Nations communities in the province; focusing on sustainable growth and diversification of the existing First Nations wood products industry.
Phase 2 of the WPTSP (2009 – 2012) will build upon
the success of Phase 1, and will be expanded to include three new
initiatives: market development, product development and design
assistance, and business development support.
Our new name, Wealth from Forests, evolved from the idea that BC First Nations now have access to resources to create wealth through value-added wood products. We’re proud to continue to support First Nations success.
